Central Florida Wins Collegiate Florida Cup
Colleges - Men's DI College

The University of Central Florida Rugby Team continues to do extremely well in in-state competition this fall.

The Knights are enjoying a 28-game winning streak, and this past weekend, hosted the finals of the Florida Cup for college teams as the top seed. On Saturday, UCF played Florida International University and won 49-8. In the other semifinal, Florida Atlantic University defeated the University of Florida 18-13.

This set up a game on Sunday between UCF and FAU, won by UCF 59-13. UCF takes the Florida Cup for the second straight year.

“Our whole team played very well,” said UCF Coach Jason Granich. “For the last two years, we have totally dominated the competition. The only team that has come close to us is the University of Florida. We are starting to click together as a team. Now we are focused on defending our national title. Our next game is against the University of South Florida during the first week of February.”

The Man of the Match was UCF center Sean Nelson, who scored three tries and challenged defenses repeatedly with his hard running.

The defending DIAA national champions, Central Florida is now done for the fall, during which they won eight games and lost none, outscoring opponents 444-67.
